Safety policy

This covers Companions and the Rendezvous — the parts of Andromeda that introduce members to each other and let them arrange to meet.

Read this part first

Andromeda does not run criminal background checks on anybody. Nobody here has been screened or vetted. Standing — the thing that decides whether somebody can be matched — is only about how they have behaved on Andromeda. It is not a background check, not an identity check, and not a judgement that anybody is safe to meet.

Whether we run background checks

Andromeda does not conduct criminal background checks on its members. We do not screen anyone against criminal records, sex-offender registries, or any other database, and we have no policy of excluding people on the basis of convictions because we do not look. Nobody on Andromeda has been vetted. If you take that to mean everyone here is safe, you have been misled — so we are saying it as plainly as we can.

Some services do run checks. Those checks are also incomplete — they miss anybody never convicted, anybody convicted elsewhere, and anybody using another name. We would rather you knew we run none at all than trusted one that told you less than you thought.

What is not allowed

Threatening, intimidating, or endangering another member's personal safety. Harassment, stalking, or repeated unwanted contact. Sexual conduct without consent, and any sexual content involving a minor.

Asking another member for money, a loan, a gift card, cryptocurrency, an investment, or account details. Recruiting anybody into a business, scheme, or organisation.

Misrepresenting who you are, including your age, your identity, or acting on behalf of somebody else.

Psyche will also never propose an objective that involves a private home, meeting alone, being out after dark, money changing hands, transporting anybody, alcohol or drugs, recruiting, recording another person, or travel. That is enforced in the software, not merely requested of it.

Age and identity

Companions and the Rendezvous are for members aged 18 and over. Age is taken from the date of birth given at sign-up, and an account with no date of birth on record is excluded rather than assumed to be an adult.

An account supervised by a guardian is never eligible, at any age. Private accounts are not eligible either.

We do not verify identity documents. A name and a photograph on Andromeda are what somebody chose to put there.

Reporting somebody

Report from the member's profile, from the pairing itself, or from any post. Reports go to Andromeda's moderators and never to the person reported. They are not shown on anybody's profile.

You will get an acknowledgement when a report you filed is received, and you will be told when it has been decided.

Filing a report you know to be false, to harm somebody or to win an argument, is itself a violation and is acted on the same way. Reporting in good faith and turning out to be mistaken is not.

If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. We are not an emergency service and cannot reach you.

Suspension, barring, and appeal

Moderators may remove content, warn an account, suspend it, or bar it from Companions and the Rendezvous entirely.

Software can pause a member's eligibility while something is looked at. Only a moderator — a person — can bar somebody permanently.

Anybody barred is told, in their account status, and may appeal. An appeal is read by a moderator who did not make the original decision, and you are told the outcome.

Consent, and the law

Sexual contact without consent is a criminal offence. It does not stop being one because two people met on Andromeda, agreed to meet, or had been talking for a long time. Consent to meet is not consent to anything else, and consent can be withdrawn at any point.

Andromeda cooperates with law enforcement acting through lawful process, and preserves records of a pairing — who, when, where, and that both people agreed — from the moment it is arranged.

If something has happened to you

You are not obliged to report it to us before getting help, and nothing here should delay you contacting emergency services.

In the United States: the National Sexual Assault Hotline, 1-800-656-4673, free and 24/7, and online at rainn.org. The National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788, and online at thehotline.org.

Outside the United States, your local emergency number, and hotlines.rainn.org lists international services.

If you tell us, we will act on it whether or not you report it anywhere else, and we will not require you to have done so first.

Meeting somebody in person

Meet in the public place you both named, and stay there. Arrange your own way there and back. Tell somebody you trust where you are going.

Anybody who pressures you to change the venue, to go somewhere private, to meet later at night, or to keep the meeting secret is telling you something, and it is worth believing.

Never send money or account details to somebody you met here, whatever the reason given.

Report from any profile or post, or from a pairing itself. If you have been barred from Companions you can appeal from your account status. The rest of Andromeda’s rules are in the Terms.

In an emergency, contact your local emergency services. Andromeda is not an emergency service and cannot reach you.
